Blessed are those that mourn, for they shall be comforted

   Matthew 5.4

death & Bereavement

The death of a loved one is one of the most stressful and traumatic experience we can have as human beings. Some find their grief so raw it feels as though they have lost part of themselves. Others can feel anger, resentment, fear, whilst others find a quiet peace. Each person’s experience is unique.

St Mary’s Church is here to help you and your family.

A service in church is for anyone, whether or not they have been regular churchgoers. You can contact the Rector yourself or your funeral director will do this for you. The clergy will then visit with you to help you plan the sort of service you would like.

Christians believe that death is not the end - that Jesus offers us the promise of eternity, with God in heaven beyond death. This hope, along with God’s presence and peace, can bring us some comfort.

Grieving seldom ends with the funeral. It is natural to feel empty for sometime afterwards. We may be able to offer you some comfort during this time.

Jesus said I am the resurrection. I am life:

Everyone who believes in me will have life, even if they die.

And everyone who lives and believes in me will never really die.

            John 11 25,26

God of life and love, we come to you in our need.
Be with us as we experience the abyss of death and grief.
Be there in our sorrow and pain; be with us in our fear, that we may find light in darkness, comfort in your Word; in the name of Jesus, who by death has
conquered death
